BISMARCK, ND, January 2, 2009 – The two-time defending NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that they have reacquired forward Rod Benson. Benson played the past two seasons with the purple and white helping Dakota win the D-League Championship during the 2006-07 season.
Benson, a 6’10 240 pound center currently holds the NBA D-League single game rebounding record when he pulled down 28 boards at Sioux Falls on 12/09/08, he also nailed 28 points that game as well.
“We are happy to have a veteran center like Rod back on a Wizards uniform,” said Wizards head coach Daune Ticknor. “He brings another force in the paint and with Will and Richard I think we are going to be pretty tough.”
Benson averaged 13.6 points and 12.1 rebounds in 49 games with Dakota last season, averaging a double double while getting some looks from the Toronto Raptors of the NBA this summer. Following summer league he made his first ever trip overseas to play for SLUC Nancy. Pending a physical, Benson will be in uniform today wearing jersey number 0 when the Wizards play in LA at the Staples Center.
Wizards forwards Quemont Greer and Marcus Hubbard have been release due to personal reasons. The Wizards retain the rights to Quemont Greer.
Center Brad Stricker also rejoins the team in LA as he had left the team due to personal reasons.
