Orlando Magic Awards Local Youth Scholarships To Basketball Camps
Orlando, Fla. – In its continuing commitment to the community efforts, Orlando Magic players have teamed up to purchase and donate scholarships to 89 Central Florida at-risk youth and non-profit organizations, the most in franchise history and almost 20 more than last year’s record of 70, allowing them to participate in the Orlando Magic youth basketball camps that were held during winter break and are being held throughout the summer in Central Florida.
In addition to the Magic’s players and coaches stepping in, Orlando Magic corporate partners have found a variety of ways to get involved this year as well. JMC Communities is donating 10 scholarships for the camp at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla., on June 11-15. Metro PCS contributed five camp scholarships, while Pollo Tropical ran an in-market promotion in April, awarding 11 camp scholarships to winners representing the 11 Central Florida Pollo Tropical locations. Aleve is also giving away 10 spots to an Orlando Magic basketball summer camp through a contest at participating local Publix Supermarkets.
The Orlando Magic youth basketball camps activities range from skills enhancement to live games, and all summer camp participants will receive one ticket voucher for a regular season home game during the 2007-08 season. Camps kick off June 4 at the RDV Sportsplex and Champions Sports Complex, and the last camp begins August 11 at the RDV Sportsplex.
